Effective Hair Removal Methods for Women
There are many ways in which one can remove facial and body hair. Some methods can be painful but effective while others are painless but less effective. Your skin type and age also will determine the method that suits you best. In the following, some of the products that can be used for hair removal have been listed.
1. Depilatory creams
This is a great solution for first-time users—depilatory creams are helpful to remove hair in large areas and is the best for first-time use. You can apply the cream, wait for a few minutes as specified, and scrape the hair off or have a shower and wash off the cream and hair. However, before trying it, do a test patch on your arm or leg to check if there is an allergic reaction. The hair is likely to grow back in 3 to 4 days. This is recommended for first-time users and teens who want to remove hair in areas like the arms, legs, and underarms.
2. Epilators
This is an electronic machine with tweezers, which pulls individual hair from its roots. It can be very painful initially and the user finds it less painful after a few uses. It is best to use on the legs and calves if the skin is not sensitive. As you use it more and more, the hair grows thinner and the pain reduces. You can use it when the skin is dry or wet. It works best when the hair is about 0.5 mm. It is effective for about a month before the new hair grows again. This is ideal for women over 18.
3. Shaving
Shaving is the most preferred hair removing tip used by women. It is the most convenient, non-messy, quick, and efficient way of removing hair; moreover, it is also quite economical. You can do it as many times as you want on hair that is long or short. The drawback is that the hair is likely to grow back quite faster than with other tips for hair removal. Repeated shaving can also darken the skin, particularly in the armpits. It can also make the skin dry; therefore, every shave should be followed by an application of moisturizer. The skin can also be tender and burn after shaving and, for some, it can turn very itchy as well. Too much shaving can result in ingrown hair follicles leading to infection. However, today, there are razors and gels available for women that provide a clean and gentle experience.
4. Tweezing
This tip is ideal for shaping your eyebrows. This could be painful for the removal of hair in large areas. Using this needs some experience and the process takes time.
5. Waxing
Waxing is also popular as it can be used for removing hair in the arms, legs, bikini lines, armpits, and even above and below the lips. You have to get used to the procedure as it can be painful. There could be some redness and small bumps might appear for a day or two and then subside. This is very effective and new hair grows only after around 5 to 6 weeks. There are many types of waxes available, but for the first few times, you can do it at a salon before testing DIY products at home.
Whichever method you choose, remember to test the product on a small patch of skin. Some of these products could contain chemicals that might not suit your skin type.
Bleaching is also an option that lightens facial hair but is not recommended for novices. Lasers and electrolysis are ways of removing the hair follicles permanently, but again, these are not recommended for newbies or young girls. You can try out any of the above methods for the first few times and then, as you get used to the process, think of trying out other options too.
