Tips on Before and After Botox Care

Tips on Before and After Botox Care

When you are about to get a Botox treatment, you have to take care of the do’s and don’ts to ensure everything is in place. Also, you must maintain certain restrictions before you head for the treatment. The procedure lasts for about 15 to 30 minutes and you must be mentally prepared to bear some amount of pain. There is nothing much to worry about as you can take paracetamol before and after the treatment.

Botox injections, like any other treatment, are different as they treat aging and wrinkles. You have to take extra precautions for better outcomes both before and after your treatments:

1. Avoid alcohol prior to Botox

To start with, you must not consume alcohol at least 24 hours before the treatment as it may work against the blood.

2. Consult your doctor about current medications

You should refrain from consuming any anti-inflammatory medicines for two weeks before the treatment. Any such medications can thin the blood and increase the chances of bruising and swelling. In case of cold and rashes, consult your doctor in advance for any necessary steps to be taken. You might have to be put on certain antiviral medication to get through the cold. Do not skip breakfast at any cost and ensure that you are hydrated before the treatment. Also, if you are under any supplement prescription, you must inform your doctor before the treatment.

3. Botox isn’t advised for pregnant women

If you are breastfeeding or pregnant, Botox treatment should not be considered. In case you have sunburnt skin, Botox treatment is a difficult proposition.

4. Underlying conditions

Certain medical conditions such as Myasthenia Gravis, pregnancy, neuromuscular disorder, and allergies cannot be considered for Botox treatment.

5. Skip workouts after a botox treatment

Once the treatment is over, you must take note of the aftercare precautionary measures. Working out is a big no and that includes any form of strenuous exercise or even mild walking. You have to rest post-treatment to help the Botox settle down in your body.

6. No rubbing the area

You might have the urge to rub the injected area post-treatment but rubbing the area should be avoided at all costs. You cannot lie down on your face post-treatment for at least a few hours. Try your best to sleep sideways or on your back for the treatment to settle down and help ease the muscles. Since it’s a toxin, you must be careful about not rubbing and touching the area.

7. Avoid smoking and drinking following a botox treatment

Smoking and drinking must be avoided after the procedure.

8. Be mindful of medications

Any blood-thinning medications must be avoided. It is best to consult your doctor for the timeline. Ensure that you aren’t touching the area for at least a few hours post treatment. Strong painkillers must be avoided post the treatment. Your doctor will prescribe some mild medication. If you love exercising, doing a few facial exercises is not a bad idea such as smiling, grinning, and frowning.

How successful your Botox treatment is depends on the precautions you take before and after the treatment.
