Ways to Manage Male Pattern Baldness

Ways to Manage Male Pattern Baldness

One may suffer from male pattern baldness if their hair loss begins at the temples or the crown of the head. The pattern, however, varies with each individual. In some men, the pattern of baldness may start with a single bald spot, whereas others may experience receding hairlines to form an “M” shape. In some men, male pattern baldness is so prominent that the hairline will continue to recede until all or most of the scalp experiences hair loss.

There are a few ways available to help manage male pattern baldness effectively; these have been explained in brief as follows:

1. Hairstyles

With the right haircut or hairstyle, it is possible for men with limited hair loss to cover up their bald spots. One can always talk to their hairstylist to check out a creative hairstyle that will make the thinning hair appear fuller.

2. Hairpieces or wigs

Wigs are great accessories that can aid in covering up thinning hair, receding hairlines, or even complete baldness. Wigs are available in a variety of styles, colors, and textures which is an added advantage. If one wants to get a natural look with a wig, they will need to choose wig colors, styles, and textures that look similar to their original hair. It would be even better if one consults a professional wig stylist for help.

3. Hair weaves

Hair weaves are simply wigs that are sewn up into one’s natural hair. The only problem with hair weaves is that one must have enough hair in order for the weave to be sewn into. The hair weave, however, has a lot of advantages such as they always stay on, even when performing activities such as swimming, sleeping, or showering. They do come along with a huge disadvantage as well, as they need to be sewn on again whenever new hair growth occurs. The sewing process can also likely damage one’s natural hair.

4. Finasteride

This is an oral medication that can serve in slowing hair loss in some men. The medication works by blocking the production of the male hormone that is responsible for hair loss. However, one does need to know that when they stop taking finasteride, the hair loss may return. One will also need to take finasteride orally for around three months to a year before they can even begin to see the results. Like all other medicines, finasteride also comes along with some side effects that include itching, depression, hives and rashes, swelling of the face or lips, and pain in the testicles.

5. Hair transplants

Hair transplants are the most invasive and expensive treatment for male pattern baldness. This process works by removing hair from areas of the scalp that have active hair growth and transplanting them to thinning or balding areas of the scalp. However, multiple treatments are necessary and the procedure also carries the risk of infection and scarring. The advantage of having a hair transplant is that it looks very natural and it is a permanent solution to male pattern baldness.
